Crested Wheatgrass, Fairway/Rangecrest
Crested Wheatgrass, Fairway/Rangecrest
Fairway and Rangecrest are fine-leaved Crested Wheatgrass varieties known for early spring growth, excellent seedling vigor, and adaptability to harsh conditions. They perform well in shallow, dry soils and are extremely cold-tolerant, making them ideal for rangeland restoration and early-season grazing in northern Utah. These varieties establish dense stands that compete well with weeds and provide good erosion control. Best suited for ranchers and land managers seeking a dependable, low-maintenance forage option.

Planting Guide:
Crested wheatgrass should be seeded with a drill at a depth of 1/2 inch or less on medium to fine textured soils. Single species seeding rates recommended for all crested wheatgrasses are 8 to 12 pounds or 20 to 30 seeds per square foot. If used as a component of a mix, adjust to percent of mix desired. For critical areas, increase the seeding rate to 40 to 50 seeds per square foot. Mulching and light irrigations on highly disturbed areas are beneficial for stand establishment.
